Best. Invite. Ever.

Earlier today, a reader of The Drama 2.0 Show forwarded me an invite sent to her by the founder of a new startup whose service apparently just came out of private beta. The two paragraphs that had me smiling:
I am asking all of you to go to [URL removed] , sign up and deposit $10 into your account. Even if you don’t play games on a regular basis or at all, it will really help me and the growth of my company. Hey if you do it next time I see you I owe you a beer! I also ask that you forward this on to your email list. It will only take a second, but if everyone does it would really mean a lot to me.
Have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving and thanks to everyone in advance for your help…I really appreciate it.
This is the best invite I have seen. Ever.

The founder of this startup doesn’t care if you are interested in his service. He doesn’t care that times are tough and that many people are trying to cut back. He wants your $10 because it will help the growth of his company. If you could forward along his email to everybody in your address book who wants to donate $10 to his company, that’d be swell too. You might get a beer in return when he sees you. If he sees you.
I don’t know. I sort of like this. At least this founder is honest. And at least he’s trying to make some money.
Of course, one might point out that charity only gets a startup so far (unless you happen to be a major financial institution that’s “too big to fail”). At some point people will really have to use your company’s service instead of donating $10 but corporate charity is a start.
While I won’t be depositing $10 into the account of this Make a Wish outfit, I do wish this guy and his startup lots of luck. Clearly he’s going to need it.

If you give me $20 to support my startup, I’ll make you scones. Really, really good scones. I’m serious.
