What the Election of Barack Obama Means for the Tech Community
Now that Americans have elected Barack Obama to be their next president and it’s back to reality, I thought I’d analyze what the election means to the tech community.
- Your “pre-revenue” Internet startup still has no revenue. It’s the day after and you’re still on track to fail.
- Net neutrality now has a friend in the White House. Barack Obama apparently supports net neutrality. Unfortunately, this is of little benefit to you because nobody visits your company’s website anyway.
- VCs may not have to pay capital gains. peHUB recently reported that one of Obama’s many plans may be to eliminate capital gains taxes for VCs. Unfortunately, they’ve invested in shit startups that aren’t going anywhere so there are no capital gains to speak of. Nice gesture though.
- “Tech” now means cleantech. Obama’s desire to hand out $150 billion to the cleantech industry means that cleantech is the new “tech.” Unfortunately, your AJAX skills are not easily transferrable to the business of energy. Perhaps you should have pursued that master’s degree in voodoo chemistry after all.
Not all that exciting, huh?
You should have written in the Youngbloodz.
