This is a super article. It highlights many things that are wrong with online dating. In fact, I do feel the piece was rather conservative in pointing out the many flaws that hinder online dating. There was no mention of the active/non active members ratio. Some surveys have indicated that as many as 80% of so called 'members' on any dating website are no longer active. Meaning their memberships have expired and they can no longer participate (respond to emails etc) Match.com is well known for not deleting non-active members. In addition, there is no mention of the gender imbalance (male/female ratio) that exists on virtually every online dating website. Males comfortably outnumber females... this much is known. However, very few (if any) websites actually divulge the true gender imbalance, realising that if they were to do so, then for many males thinking of joining then there money would be better spent elsewhere

Why is there nothing in the article about the lacking of interviewing skills. When you don't have body language and speaking style in front of you then you need a better skill set to 'quality the applicant'.

I don't know. Online dating and online speed dating seem be drawing a huge number of users and there seems to be a lot (at least some) of success stories floating around. I've always been of the opinion that as long as people are meeting, it's a good thing. Maybe not a replacement for tradition dating, but it's a plus.

Awesome article. I think there is so much money to be made by the online dating industry, they'll do whatever it takes to spin the sad truth of their service in a positive way.

This is one of the best overviews of what has become a megabusiness not only for Match.com and Myspace but also Yahoo.personals, Chemistry.com, Facebook and so many other social network sites. There is a huge community of people who could profit by the expansioon of these ideas. I believe you have the outline for a book which could be marketed to all those folks who are either considering, involved or refugees of online dating services. Give it some thought Drama 2.0, you are a terrific writer.
